N. asked:

If a tenant leaves 1 or two tinyl (probably irremovable) stains on an otherwise perfect white carpet, should they be financially responsible for it in its entireity? If so, should they have to replace it or just bleach/dye the stain(s)? Should they only have to pay a share of the cost?

Note: Apartment is more than rentable at original price for the neighborhood in question…

Thanks for the first answer, but I’m already assuming I’ll have to take the landlord to small claims court, so I’m most interested in the second part of the question…
lol I completely agree that white carpet is a bad idea in a rental…then again I was the joker who rented it! To clarify things in more detail, I’ve already moved out and did spot clean it extensively. That’s why the rest of the carpet is immaculate. The problem is a tiny red stain I didnt even realize existed until I moved a chair, so it presumably had plenty of time to get permanent. I spent a lonngggg time spot cleaning this stain, but to no avail. Basically now the stain is slightly lighter (though probably slightly bigger). The landlord is charging an arm and a leg over the security deposit, so I’ve done the paperwork to go to small claims court, and am hoping they’ll just throw it out or settle for at least just the security, but if that isnt the case…should I have to pay in full? does it make sense to bleach/dye the stain (something i didnt do) instead of replace it when its literally a tiny dot on an otherwise newish looking carpet?
